Our BCA prep program is available to all rising 8th graders who intend to apply to BCA/BT. Applicants are required to take a diagnostic test for evaluation."

Bergen County Academies (BCA)

Bergen County Academies (BCA) is a public magnet high school located in Hackensack, New Jersey.

BCA serves students in the ninth through twelfth grades from Bergen County only. Bergen County Academies is a public high school that accepts students at no cost; the expenses are covered by the student's home district. The school features seven specialized college-preparatory programs, each known as an "academy."

The Bergen County Academies offer seven distinct specialized high school programs, each focusing on a different career path. Students can explore their passion for science, art, technology, music, theatre, cooking, design, or finance. BCA Application Specifics

The BCA application process is completed in three phases.

  • Phase 1: Register online; the application portal will open in the fall.

  • Phase 2: In late February, all applicants to the Bergen County Academies will be notified of their application status. Interview invitations will be sent to students who are progressing to Phase 2

  • Phase 3: Students who interview receive Decision letters in mid-April.

By addressing and reinforcing these core topics in the spring, we help students solidify their grasp of essential algebraic principles and more, thus eliminating the need for reiteration during the summer sessions.

Our spring warm-up classes are particularly beneficial for students who are planning to apply to BCA or BCTS and have uncertainties about previously studied concepts. These sessions comprehensively cover foundational areas, from divisibility rules in math to grammar rules in English. We ensure that all students are well-prepared and confident as they move forward with Summer-Fall stimulation test prep.

- Summer - Fall Stimulation Classes

Our summer - fall stimulation session is rigorously designed to delve deeper into the complexities of the exam materials. Our comprehensive BCA preparation course begins in the summer and extends through the end of November, ensuring students are well-prepared and confident.

• Math prep focus in Summer-Fall

In the summer – fall classes, our focus is on teaching advanced math topics that frequently appear on past BCA Entrance Exams. This phase of the program is dedicated to enhancing students' problem-solving skills and their practical application of mathematical concepts. We aim to broaden your child's understanding of number systems, including base 10 and base 2, delve into various functions and their operations, clarify expressions and polynomials, and introduce the fundamentals of statistics. Our goal is to equip your child with a robust mathematical foundation that will aid them in excelling in the entrance exam.

• English Prep focus in Summer-Fall

In our English preparation, we place significant emphasis on enhancing students' critical reading and thinking skills, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and proficient writing, all crucial for excelling in the essay section of the exam. Our focus also extends to logical reasoning, boosting comprehension, organizing thoughts, and sharpening analytical skills. This preparation will additionally assist our students in writing their application essays.

• Test-Taking Strategies

From September to December, our curriculum broadens to include not just lessons in math and essay writing but also a series of weekly simulated tests. These practice tests are designed to acclimate students to the pressures and format of the actual entrance exam, providing them with the experience needed to perform confidently under exam conditions

Who Will Benefit from Our Summer - Fall Session?

These classes are ideal for every student who is planning to apply and sit for the entrance examination. We strongly recommend to join us from the start of summer right through to fall. A continuous preparation throughout this period is key to mastering the exam’s challenges and securing your success.

BCA Interviews

  • For accepted students, MindzQ Education conducts training sessions for BCA interviews
  • By late February, applicants will receive decision letters indicating if they have moved to Phase 2, the interview stage.
  • Interviews are conducted individually by a team of teachers and/or guidance counselors.
  • Depending on the chosen academy, interviews may last between 5 and 15 minutes.

Note: BCTS does not include an interview session as part of its application process.

Application Essay Guidance

  • We offer thorough reviews of application essays for both BCA and BCTS.
  • It is advisable for students to begin drafting their essays early in the admission process.
  • If applying to both academies, students need to prepare two distinct essays.

  • These should articulate the reasons for their academy choices (up to 400 words) and highlight their personal achievements (up to 100 words) .

  • This tailored approach ensures that each essay effectively communicates the students’ motivations and accomplishments.
